The Montérégie has long been marked by the presence of Amerindians, who have inhabited and frequented the region for thousands of years. Explored by Champlain, the area was settled by Europeans as early as 1642, a little after Montréal was founded. As the cradle of our society today, the Montérégie has a wealth of historic, artistic and scientific treasures, which are preserved and presented by the Montérégie Museums located throughout the region.
The Montérégie Museums tempt visitors with an array of themes, guaranteed to appeal to a wide variety of interests, including the seigneurial regime, regional and military history, the 1837-1838 rebellions, the development of transportation in Canada, costume history, contemporary and current art, natural science and archaeology.
