This activity invites students to identify differences and similarities between the landscape of earlier times and today’s landscape. They discover that the face of a society changes with the passing eras. The activity includes a tour of the permanent exhibition; the presentation of heritage objects, with comparisons to objects in the students’ daily lives; and a clay workshop that introduces them to the age-old craft of pottery.

Traces of history in today’s regional landscape
In this activity, students discover that the present-day landscape of their region abounds in traces of history. They learn the origin of names and images that they often see around them without being aware of their significance (streets, schools, bridges, etc.). The activity includes an in-class brainstorming session, during which students are invited to give the names of streets, buildings and other features that surround them; a tour of the permanent exhibition centred on people who marked the region’s history; and a clay workshop that sheds light on an important aspect of the region’s industrial past.
